Drs. Herbert Eber and Lisa Harlow announce the 6th annual Quantitative Training for Underrepresented Groups (QTUG) conference; largely supported by the National Science Foundation Grant No. 0720063, with additional support from the Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology (SMEP), as well as the American Psychological Association (APA), and several private donors.
This year’s conference will be held August 3-5, 2009 at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As in recent years, accepted participants will also have an opportunity to attend up to four days of sessions at the APA annual convention, held at the nearby convention center and hotels in Toronto, August 6-9, 2009.
The three QTUG conference days (August 3-5) will expose participants to exciting work presented by outstanding scientists, with several opportunities to interact with these potential mentors. Some time will be devoted to instruction, oriented primarily toward showcasing relevant quantitative methods and research. This year, we will have several discussion sections in which participants can talk with the speakers to follow-up on specific points and get more input.
As in previous years, participants will also have an opportunity to present their own work for review and suggestions. The deadline for submitting a research poster is extended to Sunday, July 19, 2009!!!!!!. Anyone who is accepted for participation this year at QTUG in Toronto is invited to submit a poster. We will offer monetary awards ($100 to $500) for the top posters. It is fine if your abstract has been presented before, but make sure that the submission to QTUG is at least somewhat different from previous submission(s).
Training is designed for individuals from underrepresented groups who are junior or senior undergraduate students or graduate students. Applicants with a Ph. D. who are from underrepresented groups will also be considered. Applicants must have a passport, or have all the documents available to apply for a passport before the QTUG application deadline. Applications will be considered from approximately 10-20% of those who previously participated in a QTUG/ SMEP Student Conference. Some preference will also be given for applicants from underrepresented groups who are from the Northeast or Toronto area. Selected participants will be offered some funding for travel and lodging.
Decisions for QTUG 2009 are expected in May. For more information, email qtug.smep@gmail.com.
